Northeast Film Series presents “Le Grand Voyage” 4.4.13

Logan Park Neighborhood Association (LPNA) is proud to present Le Grand Voyage, a 2004 film by French-Moroccan film director Ismael Ferroukhi, who calls it a “ tribute to the 97% of Muslims we never hear about in the Western world.”

This is the second film in LPNA’s Northeast Film Series: Celebrating the Multicultural Identity of Northeast. Featuring North African culture, it comes just weeks after the Mizna Twin Cities Arab Film Festival.

Told with humor and compassion, Le Grand Voyage follows a devout elderly Moroccan on his pilgrimage to Mecca, reluctantly accompanied by his irreligious young son who does the driving. In the beginning, there is much that divides these two, but during the course of a 3,000 mile, cross-continental journey, we come to know them as they come to know and understand each other.

The film is in Arabic and French with English subtitles, and runs for 108 minutes. It will be shown at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis (345 13th Ave NE, Minneapolis, 55413).

Desserts, coffee, and Arabic tea will be served afterward, with a discussion about the film led by Minneapolis School Board member, Founder and Executive Director of the African Development Center of Minnesota, Hussein Samatar.

Free childcare will be available at 342 13th Ave NE across the street from the Ritz Theater from 6:30 to 9:30 PM with advance arrangement. To request childcare, contact [email protected] or call 612-516-5762 by 4:00 pm, April 2, 2013.

Letter from Councilman Kevin Reich regarding Vikings Stadium

Hello,

Because there has been much speculation and some misrepresentation of the letter I sent to Governor Mark Dayton regarding the Metrodome Stadium funding proposal currently before the legislature, I am attaching a copy of the letter for you. In essence I outlined for the governor the City’s policy of supporting the Metrodome as a preferred location for a new stadium and my essential requirement that any funding plan adhere to the City charter. I made it clear that I view this issue as a budgetary matter. Therefore any acceptable plan cannot have a negative impact on our budget and ideally needs to positively support our ability to implement community development and deliver core municipal services. I hope you will review my letter and please always feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Kevin Reich
